The Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy works with numerous research  centers and programs at the University of Wisconsin -Madison, in the state of  Wisconsin, and beyond. We invite you to learn more about  the partners that help us promote knowledge of globalization and its governance.

University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Center for the Humanities
The Center for the Humanities is the primary vehicle on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus for interdisciplinary programming in the humanities. The Center’s mission includes engaging faculty, staff, students, and the public in defining the humanities; fostering interdisciplinary and collaborative study and teaching; promoting the humanities; and nurturing connections between the community and the campus.

Center for Human Performance and Risk Analysis (CHPRA)
CHPRA is organized to facilitate researcher interaction, promote new and innovative research, and transfer emerging results to business and government, responding flexibly to changing needs and challenges. The interdisciplinary nature of the center enhances research by facilitating the sharing of expertise, experience, and information across areas of specialization. The Center is also well positioned to partner with major corporations in hightechnology industries to identify effective and efficient resource allocation strategies.

Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER)
Created by Congress in the late 1980s, CIBERs were established to help increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and economic enterprise. In 1998, the University of Wisconsin-Madison was selected as a CIBER joining a distinct network of universities nationwide, all of which are known for the strength of their international programs.

Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE)
SAGE is a research center in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at UW-Madison, with about fifty faculty, scientists, students, and staff examining cutting-edge environmental challenges and solutions. With a uniquely high degree of collaboration and cross-fertilization across research groups, SAGE is able to contribute to the scientific and policy discourse on agriculture, air quality, climate, energy, public health, urban environment, and water.

East Asian Legal Studies Center (EALSC) 
The East Asian Legal Studies Center, established in 1990, continues the Law School's long history of involvement in international and comparative law with a variety of programs and activities related to the people and academic institutions of East and Southeast Asia. The Center formalizes and expands the Law School's academic interactions with universities, government ministries, and the private sector.
There is a substantial amount of state and federal funding available to research energy issues, and the cluster is helping UW-Madison effectively compete for this funding. More than three dozen faculty members are working on energy-related science and technology, and on energy economics and policy issues on campus. The cluster helps provide a focal point for this work and offers the potential for UW-Madison to develop a well-defined comprehensive and reenergized focus on energy sources and policy.

Energy Analysis and Policy Program
The Energy Analysis and Policy Program (EAP) gives UW-Madison graduate students the skills and knowledge needed by professionals in government, energy companies, consulting firms, and other organizations to grapple with these kinds of concerns. EAP complements the discipline-centered approaches of most graduate degree programs, including those in energy-related fields such as geology, economics, chemistry, engineering, and business.
The EU Center of Excellence brings together and fosters the deep reserves of specialized knowledge of the European Union at the UW-Madison. Three themes serve to organize a series of activities intended to raise awareness of the transformation of the European Union among various audiences within the U.S. while also facilitating partnerships with European universities, scholars and legislative bodies: The EU as a Global Actor, Transformations of European Law and Governance, and Exporting EU Governance.
The mission of FRI is to generate, integrate, and disseminate food safety information through research, education, and outreach that address foodborne microbial pathogens and their toxins, food toxicants, and intervention strategies required to maintain and improve food safety.

Global Health
The center is a joint initiative of the schools of Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine and Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, and the Division of International Studies.  It is believed to be one of the few centers for global health in which multiple health science schools and an international studies unit on a single campus have united to advance global health.

Global Legal Studies Center (GLSC)
Through this project, the Law School and International Studies work together to promote the understanding of international, transnational, and comparative legal systems, processes and regimes and disseminate this knowledge to students and constituencies on and off campus.

Governance Research Circle
The Governance Research Circle brings together scholars from law, public policy, and the social sciences in a cross-campus research network to share ideas and findings concerning new developments in governance at the state, national, and international levels.
The Grainger Center for Supply Chain Management is the only endowed, university-based center specializing in supply chain management in the United States. Its unique curriculum is cross-functional and takes an integrated business process view of supply chains, including marketing, sourcing, logistics, operations, and customer service. It is a personalized, industry-focused program supported by companies known for supply chain excellence. Students connect with and learn from real-world supply chain leaders and are part of a strong, close-knit community.

Initiative for Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship (INSITE)
The Initiative for Studies in Transformational Entrepreneurship (INSITE) seeks to enhance the University of Wisconsin's impact on technology entrepreneurship in two ways.  Firstly, INSITE works to facilitate, create and transmit fundamental research related to technology entrepreneurship.  Secondly, INSITE facilitates and encourages leveraged curriculum and program development related to technology entrepreneurship.

Institute for Legal Studies (ILS)
The Institute acts as a catalyst and facilitator for scholarly work on sociolegal topics carried out by faculty and graduate students, and supports related studies in dual degree graduate programs and in the undergraduate Legal Studies Program.

International Institute and its member programs
The International Institute is composed of area and international studies centers at UW–Madison. Through its member programs, which include eight prestigious Title VI National Resource Centers, the Institute educates globally engaged students and fosters innovative international research across disciplines.

National Center for Freight and Infranstructure Research and Education (CFIRE)
CFIRE’s mission is to advance technology, knowledge, and expertise in the planning, design, construction and operation of sustainable freight transportation infrastructure through education, research, outreach, training and technology transfer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and its partner institutions.

Office of Corporate Relations
OCR serves as the front door to university resources for business and industry and focuses on providing service to companies in the following six areas: recruiting UW-Madison graduates and interns, providing executive education and professional development, accessing faculty and staff expertise, licensing technology, enhancing global competency, and fostering entrepreneurship.
The Energy Institute integrates energy related activities across University of Wisconsin - Madison and promotes collaboration with government and industry leaders to comprehensively address the energy challenge. 
The Weinert Center at the University of Wisconsin School of Business is dedicated to teaching, research, and service pertaining to entrepreneurial management and enterprise development. The Weinert Center is a resource for students interested in entrepreneurship. Students complete a concentration of programs in entrepreneurship and other related topics in preparation for roles as business owners and managers, venture capitalists, or consultants to smaller businesses. 

Wisconsin Project on Governance and Regulation (WISGAR)
The Wisconsin Project on Governance and Regulation (WISGAR) supported research, teaching, and outreach on new forms of governance and alternative approaches to regulation. The project examined specific areas in which regulatory activity was underway and explored changing concepts of regulation and governance.


Schools and Departments

Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs
The mission of the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs is to improve the design of public policy and the practice of governance. They do so by conducting innovative and multidisciplinary policy and management research; training, mentoring, and educating students interested in domestic and international policy and governance in public, non-profit, and private settings; and informing the practice of public affairs locally, nationally, and globally by disseminating knowledge to practitioners.

Law School
The University of Wisconsin Law School boasts a tradition of excellence that dates back more than 135 years. Throughout its history, the University of Wisconsin Law School has occupied a special and important place in U.S. legal education. Like the world-class university of which it is a part, the UW Law School has historically been ranked among the nation's preeminent schools.

School of Business
The mission of the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is to create, integrate, transfer and apply knowledge relevant to business. We carry out this mission through five core activities: research, undergraduate education, graduate education, executive education, and service. The vision of the School of Business is to be internationally renowned for knowledge creation and for expertise concentrated around selected career specializations in which we provide transforming educational experiences by integrating theory, application, and practitioner networks.
The department's disciplinary strengths are augmented by exceptional related programs in environmental studies, life sciences, economics, finance, statistics, math, and public policy. The faculty, distinguished by its record of public service, research and extension work, excels in obtaining research support from government, foundations, and international agencies.

Department of  Economics
Economics at the University of Wisconsin Madison is a top teaching and research department comprised of a dedicated group of faculty, staff and students who lead the field in current economic issues. They seek to understand the decisions of businesses, consumers, and current economic issues by developing a systematic and thorough understanding of precisely how the economic system operates.

Department of History
As a department of the undergraduate College of Letters and Sciences, the UW-Madison History Department has over 750 undergraduate majors and serves countless additional students drawn to history to meet other requirements of the College.  As a member of the Graduate School, the History Department has a vibrant community of 200 graduate students.  For all of its students, the History Department is committed to providing an exciting and diverse intellectual community - and a connection to last a lifetime.

Department of Political Science
The University of Wisconsin Political Science Department is one of the nation's oldest and most respected programs. Our department is highly ranked in national surveys, and our award-winning faculty are known for innovative research on the discipline's most current and important questions. Our dedication to teaching is also apparent: we are one of the largest majors on campus, with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate instruction.

Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology here in Madison is a prosperous and excellent one -- often ranked number one in the world -- in a locale that, in 2007 has been identified as one of five perfect American college towns, one of the best 25 cities in which to live, and one of the top 10 best "green" cities. With this backdrop, we maintain our sociological excellence through rigorous research, methodological discipline and innovation, and theoretical sophistication, hiring the best quality faculty members at every level. We are also known for our superior undergraduate as well as graduate teaching (with an award-winning faculty), and make important public and policy contributions.

Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies
The Nelson Institute is a pioneer and world leader in the development of interdisciplinary environmental learning and inquiry. The Nelson Institute offers a wide spectrum of courses and academic degree and certificate programs for undergraduate and graduate students. They also conduct a broad range of research and outreach activities.
 
 

International

CONNEX seeks to integrate independent fundamental research and mobilise outstanding scholars from different disciplines to deepen our knowledge on European multilevel governance and build a Europe-wide research community which stands for scientific excellence.

International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD)
As an independent non-profit and non-governmental organisation, ICTSD engages a broad range of actors in ongoing dialogue about trade and sustainable development. With a wide network of governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental partners, ICTSD plays a unique systemic role as a provider of original, non-partisan reporting and facilitation services at the intersection of international trade and sustainable development.

New Modes of Governance Project (NEWGOV)
The pan-European Project was funded by the European Union under the Sixth Framework Programme from 2004 up to 2008. It examined the transformation of governance in and beyond Europe by mapping, evaluating and analysing the emergence, execution, and evolution of 'New Modes of Governance'. NEWGOV included 24 projects and 2 transversal task forces and had more than 50 participating researchers from some 35 institutions in western and eastern Europe.

Local

The Madison Committee on Foreign Relations, Inc. is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to the open discussion of issues facing the United States and other nations. We bring principals in current foreign policy topics to Madison in a unique not-for-attribution format to foster an atmosphere of respect and an open dialog. Membership is open to those with an interest in foreign affairs and the desire to be connected to like-minded individuals and organizations within our community.

Madison International Trade Association (MITA)
The Madison International Trade Association is a leading networking and educational association for professionals interested in or involved in international trade. Professionals at all levels of international organizations participate in MITA activities. Member companies include manufacturers, food companies, and services providers such as freight forwarders, banks, law firms as well as universities and governmental institutions.

Wisconsin Department of Commerce International Division 
The Wisconsin Department of Commerce provides a variety of services to firms seeking to expand their sales into new markets around the world.

Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) was created in 1945 to consolidate separate veterans programs under one agency. Today, WDVA provides grants, loans and a variety of services to eligible Wisconsin veterans and their families.

Wisconsin Veterans Museum
The Veterans Museum offers instructive exhibits that highlight important events in Wisconsin military history from the Civil War to the present. The museum has received national recognition for its displays.
