Overview:
The Food Safety Enhancement Act, H.R. 2749, will increase the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authority in food production inspections, developing new enforcement measure and tracking food recalls. In addition, future approaches will focus on prevention, increased resources, and risk-based approach to targeting those resources.

On November 12, 2009, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Food Research Institute will host a one-day symposium "Developing Risk-Based Food Safety Regulations" at the Pyle Center, Madison, WI. The objective of this comprehensive one-day symposium is to present a discussion on the basics of risk assessment, attribution, the less recognized food-borne diseases, impact of intervention strategies on public health, and the use of assessments and data to develop risk-based food safety regulations. This meeting is intended for food professionals in food safety, public health, research and development, product development, marketing, quality control, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs, as well as and students in food science and public health.  See the event flier here.

Scheduled presenters and topics include:
